Gretl
If you own a computer and don't want to fiddle with SAS, you can use a free program written by Alin Cottrell called Gretl. The Gretl web site can be found Here. The MS Windows version can be downloaded from Gretl Windows version.
Other Gretl resources
- Gretl user manual: Gretl guide.
- Undergraduate Econometrics Data sets in Gretl format. UE2 data sets in Gretl format. Note this is for windows only at this point.
- I am writing a manual for Undergraduate Econometrics (3rd edition) on how to use Gretl. The most recent draft is here. Through the first 9 chapters of the second edition are covered. This is only a draft and I warn you that no proof-reading has been done. Use at your own risk (though I think it will help).
Learning SAS
- Links to
online documentation for SAS version 9.
- SAS Class notes from UCLA
Academmic Technology services. This is a great site with a
wealth of information about SAS and other statistical software.
Follow the links and you will find some movies about various
aspects of SAS.
- Official
SAS documentation from the SAS Corporation's documents
online.
- Also from the SAS document site is the 2400+ page
ETS Manual in .pdf format. This file is big, but if you do
econometrics with SAS, you'll want to consult this manual for
the details of estimation as well as for specific commands you may
need. Fortunately, we only use a very small subset of this program. The procedures used in this class include AUTOREG, SYSLIN and MODEL.
